This service is an educational support tool only and is not a substitute for qualified teachers, official DBE/CAPS textbooks, or examination guidelines. AOLC (Pty) Ltd does not guarantee the accuracy of any AI-generated response and accepts no liability for academic outcomes resulting from reliance on this service. Always verify important information with your teacher or official Department of Basic Education materials.
1. About This Service
AOLC CAT Mentor ("the Service") is an AI-powered tutoring assistant for South African Computer Applications Technology (CAT) learners and teachers, operated by AOLC (Pty) Ltd ("AOLC", "we", "us"). By registering for or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use.
2. Eligibility and Registration
- Teachers must provide accurate school and contact information at registration.
- Students under 18 years of age may only register with parental or guardian consent. By registering, students (or the teacher approving them) confirm that such consent exists.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. Do not share your password or join code with unauthorised persons.
- Teachers are responsible for the students they approve under their join code.
3. AI-Generated Content
- Responses are generated by an AI model and may be incomplete, incorrect, or not aligned with the current CAPS syllabus.
- AOLC does not warrant that any response is accurate, current, or fit for any specific purpose.
- Do not use AI responses as your sole source of information for examinations, assignments, or assessments.
- Chat messages you send are processed by a third-party AI provider (OpenAI). Do not include sensitive personal information in chat messages.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable South African law.
- Attempt to circumvent security, access other users' accounts, or abuse the platform.
- Share login credentials or join codes with unauthorised third parties.
- Use the Service to generate content that is abusive, discriminatory, or harmful.
- Attempt to extract, scrape, or copy the underlying AI system, curriculum data, or platform code.
5. Teacher Responsibilities
- Teachers who register are responsible for ensuring their school details are accurate.
- Teachers are responsible for the learners they approve and must ensure those learners have obtained appropriate parental consent where required.
- Teachers should advise learners that AI responses must be verified and are not authoritative examination guidance.
6. Intellectual Property
The AOLC CAT Mentor platform, branding, and interface are the intellectual property of AOLC (Pty) Ltd. CAPS curriculum content referenced in the platform is the property of the South African Department of Basic Education. You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercialise any part of the Service without written permission from AOLC.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, AOLC (Pty) Ltd, its directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from:
- Reliance on any AI-generated response provided by the Service.
- Any examination or academic outcome.
- Interruption, suspension, or termination of the Service.
- Unauthorised access to your account.
8. Service Availability
AOLC does not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Service. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice.
9. Account Suspension and Termination
AOLC reserves the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms, engages in abuse, or provides false registration information.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance. The "Last updated" date above indicates when changes were made.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
